Friday night and the downtown DC bars were a beehive, swarming with lawyers, high-powered businessmen and women, and the who's who of the behind-the-scenes political elite. Camry and I wove our way to the long mahogany bar of Old Ebbitt Grill to order our drinks─ hers a dirty martini, mine a glass of red.
“My turn to buy,” I said, handing the bartender my card.
“Drinks are on that guy,” the bartender said, pointing to the guy who was staring in our direction. I thought for sure he was looking at Camry. She was a tall and voluptuous marketing genius who knew everyone in town. With golden brown hair that fell in waves down her back, almond-shaped, rich green eyes, and signature red lipstick, she made every man turn and stare as she walked by.
When it became clear he was looking at me, I smiled, and he smiled back. Our eyes were locked as he made his way through the crowd to where Camry and I stood.
The dim lighting didn’t reveal just how incredibly good-looking he was until he was in front of me. He had silky jet-black hair that fell perfectly around his azure blue eyes, and he had a small cleft in his chin. In his perfectly tailored suit, he looked like he fell off the cover of GQ.
Camry raised her glass to the magnificent specimen of a man and turned to me, mouthing Yeah, baby, before walking away.
“Thanks for the drink,” I said, leaning on the bar.
“You’re welcome,” he said, mirroring my lean.
“We come here almost every Friday, and I’ve never seen you.”
“I wrapped up a big merger and came out with some colleagues to celebrate.”
“Lawyer?”
“Lawyer,” he said with a warm smile that revealed a slight dimple on his right cheek.
“Alex,” I said, extending my hand.
“Adam,” he replied.
Adam Clark was smooth-talking and devilishly handsome and was a partner at a corporate law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions.
Me, with my shoulder-length blonde hair in a sexy updo, ice blue eyes, and a little bit of booty in my tight pencil skirt, was apparently all he needed after a few drinks to celebrate a half-a-billion-dollar business merger.
An hour later, Camry was buying drinks for a potential new client, and I was ready to leave with Adam. He held my hand, guiding me through the crowd. His touch sent shocks through my body. It was only a ten-minute walk before we unlocked the door to my apartment.
“I never do this,” I said, feeling his breath on my neck.
It was true. Aside from a reckless start to my twenties when sex with strangers was my security blanket, I reformed myself when I moved to DC...
